The final rounds of competition are now available in the GT Academy 2012 mini-game, including the all-important, final time trial challenge, which takes place at Polyphony Digital’s newly-remodeled Twin Ring Motegi circuit!

New Gran Turismo 5 DLC: Twin Ring Motegi, Scion FR-S
The official Italian Gran Turismo website has just published (UPDATE: this content has since been removed) new details about Gran Turismo 5‘s upcoming downloadable content.
As expected, Twin Ring Motegi will be coming to the game, including four different configurations: the Road Course, Super Speedway, East Course, and West Course. It will be available at a price of €5.00 (prices in other regions have not yet been confirmed).
The Scion FR-S, a variant on the Toyota 86, will also become available in the game at no cost. Stay tuned for more official information regarding release dates and international pricing soon. Thanks to all of you who sent this in so quickly!
Following on from the Tweet detailing GT Academy‘s online participation, Kazunori Yamauchi has also Tweeted figures about GT5′s cumulative online racing to date – a truly staggering 36.4 billion miles in the 577 days since launch!
Numbers of this magnitude are difficult to comprehend without context, so here’s some equivalents:
•GT5 players have driven the distance from the Earth to the Sun. And back. 200 times.
•Or the distance from the Sun to Neptune. And back. Thirteen times.
•In under 2 years GT5 players have driven three times further than Voyager 1 has managed in 35 years.
•We’d still take 1,367 years to drive GT5 to our nearest star, Proxima Centauri…
The average increase in distance is 63 million miles a day, with GT5′s online players covering the same distance in 2 days as the entire GT Academy 2012 competition has so far! This corresponds to 2.6 million mph or around 730 miles per second, enough to:
•Equal the record distance in the Nürburgring 24hr in 3.4 seconds
•Drive from San Francisco to New York in 3.5 seconds
•Drive from New York to London in 4.7 seconds
•Drive from London to Sydney in 14.4 seconds
•Drive around the Earth in the time it took you to read this article
•Drive to the Moon in 5 minutes 27 seconds
Even though the average online race in Gran Turismo 5 is only just over 12 miles in length, the community as a whole is certainly getting their money’s worth from the game with each player driving nearly 500 online miles.
Racer X” Wildcard Announced for U.S. GT Academy 2012, National Finals Detailed
Lots of new information has just been published on the PlayStation Blog which outlines everything that’s about to go down at the U.S. GT Academy 2012 finals, which will be held alongside Comic-Con next month in San Diego, California.
If you didn’t make it into the top 32 moving forward in the competition, you still have one more chance: Sony and Nissan will be hosting a special wildcard challenge to find “Racer X”, a 33rd finalist who will join the competition and compete directly with the other finalists.
Racer X will be determined via a time-trial challenge held at the Oasis Bar inside the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego on Thursday, July 12th from 10:00am to 4:00pm PST. Eligible players will need to arrive and register at the event as early as possible to secure their chance for a hot lap.
As if a spot in the GT Academy finals wasn’t enough, Racer X will also be awarded a special-edition HumanRacing GT Chassis racing seat, complete with a Thrustmaster T500RS steering wheel and pedal set, as pictured below.
GT Academy 2012 Prizes Now Appearing in Gran Turismo 5
If you achieved “Gold” times in the GT Academy 2012 mini-game, your efforts are about to be rewarded! Prizes earned in the competition’s time trials are now being distributed to players in Gran Turismo 5.

Gran Turismo 6 Rumored to Include Large Number of Tracks
While helping out with the Polish GT Academy 2012 finals, Lucas Ordoñez made an interesting comment about Gran Turismo 6‘s development, which he’s reportedly involved in.
“The amount of (tracks) will be such that will make a hat fall off your head.”
“Hat falling off your head” is common way to say how you will be amazed by something.
Representatives from Polyphony Digital have, of course, already been spotted at the Bathurst circuit, scanning and photographing it for Gran Turismo 6.
Kazunori on Gran Turismo 6, GT Vita, & Shanghai Circuit at ChinaJoy 2012 Game Show
Kazunori Yamauchi is attending ChinaJoy 2012, one of Asia’s largest video game shows, in Shanghai this week.
While speaking with the press during a question-and-answer session, he made some interesting remarks about Gran Turismo 6 and Gran Turismo Vita, though stopped short of confirming the existence of a new mobile title.
Originally reported by Impress Watch and translated by AndriaSang, Kazunori stated that work on GT6 began immediately after GT5 was finished.
He also mentioned that “we’re always aiming for the latest technology and the latest expression,” further complicating speculation regarding which platform (PS3 or PS4) Gran Turismo 6 will appear on.
Regarding a Vita title, he chose his words very carefully while answering a question about the hypothetical game; ”If we were to make it, we’d like to make use of the ability to play anywhere and the ability to use 3G at any time.”
Kazunori also stated that he will be visiting the local Shanghai International Circuit, which has hosted China’s Formula 1 Grand Prix since 2004, to consider what “elements” could be integrated in a future Gran Turismo title.
Gran Turismo 5 Update 2.09 Now Available, Brings Important Changes & Improves HSV-010 Engine Sounds
The latest update for Gran Turismo 5 is now available, and offers a few minor tweaks along with a timely change (given one of the questions in my recent interview with Kazunori Yamauchi) to the engine sound of the Honda Weider HSV-010.

The [Tire/Fuel Consumption] settings under [Event Settings] of the Online Lounge can now be set in four levels; “None”, “Normal”, “Fast”, and “Very Fast”.
The view during 3D display has been improved.
The speed of tire wear varied too greatly depending on the vehicle in some cases, and this has been balanced.
Improved the scoring method in drift trials to prevent cheating
The maximum RPM of the Honda Weider HSV-010 (SUPER GT) ’11 has been changed to 10300rpm. The engine sound has also been improved.
Fixed an issue where enemy cars were hitting the pit entrance wall when pitting in at the Twin Ring Motegi Road Course East.
Fixed an issue where fuel was not being consumed when entering an endurance race with a Prius, or when setting tires and fuel to be consumed in the online lounge. Affected cars: Toyota Prius G ’02, Toyota Prius G ’09, Toyota Prius G Touring Selection ’03, Toyota Prius Touring Car.
Fixed an issue where the online control characteristics differed from the offline characteristics.
